Lois Joy, Ph.D., directs Metrics research at Catalyst, including the U.S. Censuses of Women Board Directors and Women Corporate Officers and Top Earners and the Business Case series that explores the relationships between women in leadership and company financial performance. Dr. Joy also leads Catalyst research on women in healthcare and bioscience leadership. For the last 15 years, she has conducted research on national and international gender and race differences in education, occupations, wages, and career paths. Her research has been supported by grants from the American Educational Research Association, the Business and Professional Women's Foundation, and the American Association of University Women, and has been published in peer-reviewed journals and as book chapters.

Prior to joining Catalyst, Dr. Joy served as research director of the Women Faculty Forum (WFF) at Yale University and before that as statistical consultant and economic researcher at Smith College in Northampton, Mass. She has taught graduate and undergraduate economics courses at the University of San Francisco and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and consulted on research projects for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the United Nations International Labour Organization. Dr. Joy received her doctorate in economics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, conducting her dissertation research on gender gaps in promotion and pay in the teaching profession.
