Types of Research & Knowledge
Catalyst publishes several types of research and knowledge. We invite you to browse below by specific type. A cross-section of our Research reports that quantify women's experiences, along with our Pyramids, comprises our Metrics offerings. Our work falls into three practice areas.
Research: Our reports, written by our world-class researchers, examine women in business, the factors that contribute to their progress, and the barriers that hinder their advancement. Based on rigorous methodologies, including surveys and in-depth interviews with executive women and men, they detail the number of women in top leadership positions, quantify the effects of barriers such as gender stereotyping, build the business case for advancing women, benchmark progress at Catalyst member organizations, and propose solutions for improving workplace diversity and inclusion.
Making Change: These short, practical handbooks, developed by Catalyst researchers and the consultants in its Advisory Services group, help human resources professionals and line managers tackle common workplace issues with new perspectives. The action-oriented booklets give business leaders a blueprint for creating workplaces that tap the full range of talent in their organizations.
Quick Takes: This series of statistics-based overviews, created by Catalyst's Information Center, covers numerous topics, including women and women of color, work-life balance, working mothers, women in Canada, LGBT women, disabled workers, earnings and income, and women in various fields, such as law, government, and high tech.
Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Practices: Learn how organizations, including those whose initiatives have won the Catalyst Award, have tackled diversity and inclusion through our D&I Practices. These documents detail the steps organizations have taken to address particular issues facing their businesses.
Pyramids: Catalyst's hallmark Pyramids provide a statistical snapshot of women's place in business, including specific industries.
