Practice Areas
Women in Leadership
Catalyst's studies of women's leadership, development, and advancement are the cornerstone of our research offerings. Our general and industry-specific research portrays the state of the workplace for executive women by going behind the scenes to assess women's paths to success; the barriers women have faced on their way to the top; women's aspirations; their approaches to achieving work-life effectiveness and much more. Catalyst also counts the number of women corporate officers, top earners, and board members at the largest companies in the United States and Canada in our annual Censuses.
Organizational Change & Effectiveness
Catalyst's research on organizational change examines the relationship between organizational culture and employee experiences to yield insight into practices and strategies that attract and leverage diversity in the workplace. Our studies provide practical advice for how organizations can become more effective at supporting opportunities for women. Topics range from change management to leadership development.
Women of Color/Visible Minorities
Early research on gender in the workplace focused almost exclusively on white women. Catalyst's work on women of color has broadened the business world's understanding of gender in the workplace by reporting on the understudied groups embodied by women of color. Furthermore, women of color are not studied as a monolithic group. Our research has found professional, personal, and perceptual differences in the backgrounds and needs of African-American women, Asian women, and Latinas. We also study Canada's "Visible Minorities," a Canadian legal term describing people who are non-Caucasian in race, non-white in color, and not Aboriginal. We continue to develop practical research-based recommendations to improve the retention, development, and advancement of women of color, and, more generally, to create more inclusive workplaces where all women have a chance to succeed.
