As a management consulting firm, McKinsey relies on the knowledge and skills of its employees, and prides itself on attracting the world’s top talent regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other markers of diversity. McKinsey’s LGBT employee network group, “GLBT at McKinsey” (GLAM), was established in 1994. This self-governing, self-selecting global group convenes as a full diversity network in person every 12 to 18 months, with regular communication and programming occurring in between these conferences through a combination of meetings, receptions, videoconferences, and teleconferences among a subset of the network. In addition, McKinsey’s 2011 annual meeting marked the launch of an “allies” group to be formalized in London, New York City, and Toronto.
