The advancement of women has long been a priority at Scotiabank. In 2002, a diverse, cross-functional group of the most senior-level women in the organization formed the Advancement of Women (AoW) Steering Committee because they realized that, in order to make change, the process for advancing women needed to become institutionalized. The AoW Steering Committee conceived and launched Scotiabank’s Advancement of Women initiative and the seven strategic pursuits that it uses to drive change in the basic functioning of the organization. As one of these pursuits, accountability for diversity efforts is critical to driving change at Scotiabank.
