Aurizon – Increasing Representation and Redefining Norms for a More Diverse and Inclusive Workplace (Practices)

Upon becoming a publicly traded company in 2010, Aurizon’s relatively low levels of diversity prompted the organization to embark on a strategic diversity and inclusion (D&I) journey. In order to meet its aggressive representation targets for diverse employees—namely women and indigenous peoples—Aurizon started at the frontline: recruitment. Additionally, Aurizon’s Shared Care Initiative is an innovative approach to parental leave, developed to support women’s return to full-time work after maternity leave. Aurizon also implemented a series of programs to support employees to manage the circumstances surrounding domestic violence.
