Flip the Script: Feedback in flexible workplaces
Executive Summary
In today’s intentionally flexible (e.g., hybrid or remote) workplaces, giving and receiving feedback in an inclusive manner can be challenging, especially when colleagues have different experiences, access to resources, and cultural backgrounds. Effective collaboration across locations, time zones, and schedules can’t happen without open lines of communication. To facilitate candid, constructive, and fair feedback, lean on three team norms that Catalyst research shows are linked to more inclusive workplaces: promoting expressions of differences, fostering a team coaching climate, and codifying fair team decision-making practices. Keep these norms in mind when you ask for, receive, or want to give feedback so that you use inclusive language that encourages growth and understanding for everyone.
