Started in 2009, Catalyst’s Engaging Men in Gender Initiatives was a foundational research series that led to the creation of MARC (Men Advocating Real Change) and has informed subsequent Catalyst research. Since this work was originally published, our thinking has continued to grow and evolve. Now, we return to this important work, summarizing the original research reports while adding the knowledge we’ve gained. This report focuses on potential barriers to supporting gender equity and solutions to overcome those barriers.
Understanding and addressing the barriers and gender norms that men face is critical to both creating more equitable workplaces and improving the professional and personal well-being of men. The end result will be a more productive and psychologically safe workplace with employees who feel more committed and more included, regardless of gender.
