In January 2008, Deloitte & Touche LLP, Canada, announced its creation of the role of Chief Diversity Officer (CDO). At the time, few other Canadian organizations had similar positions. The CDO’s responsibilities are as follows: oversee the implementation of Deloitte’s diversity strategy; ensure that the strategy remains relevant to and representative of the firm’s business goals; roll out educational and awareness programs for leaders and employees; ensure that policies and practices in the organization are aligned with diversity goals; encourage the creation of employee networks and support existing networks; ensure that talent-related activities are viewed through a diversity lens; and track and report progress through scorecards developed by the diversity team.
