2010 Catalyst Census: Financial Post 500 Women Senior Officers and Top Earners (Report)
Mar 01, 2011The 2010 Catalyst Census: Financial Post 500 Women Senior Officers and Top Earners details women’s representation in senior leadership positions at the largest companies in Canada. This biennial report provides critical statistics to gauge women’s advancement into leadership and highlights the gender diversity gap.
Each year Catalyst tracks:
- Women’s share of senior officer positions.
- Women’s share of senior officer top earner positions at public companies.
- Women’s share of senior officer positions in public, private, crown, and cooperative companies and by industry and region.
- The percentage of companies with zero and 25 percent or more women senior officers.
In 2010, women held 17.7 percent of senior officer positions at Financial Post 500 companies, an increase of four-fifths of a percentage point since 2008. In both 2008 and 2010, more than 30 percent of companies had no women senior officers. Women held just 6.2 percent of top earner positions at public companies in 2010; in 2008, women held 5.6 percent of these positions. Finally, while the percentage of public companies with 25 percent or more women senior officers increased 7.7 percentage points from 2008, crown companies continue to have the highest representation of women senior officers compared to other types of companies.
